The USPS is woefully mismanaged...
It should be no surprise that the USPS is doing so poorly. They not only display awful customer service but they are also mismanaged.
I sent a package to Canada insured. The recipient said it arrived with damage so I submitted a claim. I received one letter confirming my claim was received, and which warned that it could take awhile to process since a foreign post system was involved. Then nothing.
After what I thought was a reasonable time to wait I mailed an inquiry letter to the person who had sent me the confirmation. No response. In the months following I contacted various departments of the USPS using a variety of methods. Sometimes I received zero response, other times the responder referred to me to someone else and the one person who actually tried to help me could not even locate any information on my claim.
How can the USPS be expected to manage their massive budget and operations if they cannot even fulfill one simple insurance claim? All they had to do was say yes, approved, here's a check or no denied.
Hey, USPS, you aren't the only game in town anymore. Stop acting like you are.

Yes, USPS is mismanaged. What about the computers that are specially made with the weird buttons (no touch screens or keyboards there) that take a really long time to enter?
Come on, it shouldn't take 15-20 button pushes for the person at the counter to print some postage.
Or what about the carriers, that are paid hourly and the less they deliver the smaller their route gets? However, UPS is not any better- at least USPS doesn't call for directions to my house, which is a major road and is accessible directly via 2 state routes, and is on every map and mapping service, clearly marked, that I have ever seen?
