I ordered a small but important package on Sept. 19. It shipped USPS First Class w/Delivery Confirmation so I routinely tracked the package until Sept. 23 when it said it was delivered sometime in the morning.

I went downstairs to check my mail (I live in an apartment building in NYC) but there wasn't anything in my mailbox. The standard in my apartment building is that if the package is too big to fit in the mailbox the mailman will put the package in one of the large mailboxes underneath the regular mailboxes. He'll then take the key from the large mailbox and place it in the small mailbox so whoever is checking their mail will know that a larger package is awaiting them in one of the larger mailboxes.

I also checked with both of my doormen to see if my package had been left with them but I didn't have any luck. So I called USPS's toll free number and also filed a complaint through USPS's website saying that I had a missing package. I received a call a few days later (definitely not the 1-2 business day *** they claim on the website) from a woman at my local post office (W 116 Street). She asked me if I was the only one with a mailbox key and whether I lived in an apartment building. That's all. She told me that she would speak with my carrier and that she would call me the next day (Tuesday).

So I waited but she never called so I called her back. I was then put on hold for 45 minutes. They forgot about me so I hung up and called again and the man that answered told me that the woman I had spoken with wasn't in that day. I asked if he could help and he said no. He told me to call back tomorrow instead of being professional, taking down my number and telling me that Mrs. Briggs (the woman I had been speaking with) would call ME back. USPS was the one that lost my package. Why do I need to do all of this work to get it back?

So the next day I called back and spoke to Mrs. Briggs. She said that my carrier said that he had put the package in one of the larger mailboxes but I told her that I had checked all of the mailboxes and besides, there wasn't a key in my regular mailbox so clearly he didn't put my package in the larger mailbox. I also told her that the package was small enough to fit inside of my regular mailbox. As I was explaining all of this to her she kept talking over me and yelling and then she told me to call back tomorrow at 8am to speak with my carrier.

I haven't been able to get in touch with my carrier but I'm about to go downstairs and tell my doorman to call me when the USPS mailman gets here so I can talk to him face to face. It's Sunday and my package has been missing for two weeks.

I tried calling another post office that is close to me to see if they could help and when I explained my situation to a female employees she was very rude and unprofessional. She kept talking over me as and she said, "What do you expect me to do about it?" I asked her that all I need was some help and direction. I told her that I really needed this package and she said, "Well, I can't help you." I asked her if there was anyone else that I could talk to and she said, "No."

So on Sept. 25 I had another package sent to me via USPS' Delivery Confirmation service and there isn't any status information on it. It's like it just vanished into thin air. I filed another complaint via USPS' website and I'm sure it's going to be just as difficult locating this second package which should have arrived by now.

I just don't know what else to do at this point.

I am having the same issues in my area in Missouri. I have been expecting a large package for 3 weeks now.

It seems to have just vanished as well. On top of that, the mail has been placed in the wrong mailboxes on several occasions and has run as late as 6 pm.

It is not reliable. It may be prudent to walk my neighborhood to see if it was delivered to someone else and they just kept it since it was a pricey item.
